Psychology Careers
As children we tend to dream about what we will do in adulthood. The many careers that we select are ones like police officers, teachers, doctors, astronauts, cowboys and movie stars. We tend to aspire to be what we see. While these tend to be childhood dreams that some of us follow, others will go in totally different directions. I’m sure very few of you have dreamed of having a calling in psychology. Psychiatry in the other part deals with the emotional aspects of a mentally broken. The aid granted by these professionals can provide a stable platform for many of these people to start their lives. Many times a prescription for medications such as antidepressants, antianxiety and antipsychotic drugs prescribed.
Online Degree in Psychology
A career in psychology is lucrative and exciting. A person with a degree in psychology can expect to work in a field of health or research fields of psychology. But did you know that it is also a good way to enter the business world? Every job, no matter what it is, refers to aspects of human behavior that often requires psychological help.
A psychology degree program online can provide any level of a certificate to a doctorate. To obtain a degree in psychology, basic course work has to be fulfilled. This may include but not be limited to, courses in biology, social sciences, research methodologies, behavioral psychology and clinical science. The fields of psychology can incorporate child psychology, sports fields, medical centers, schools and others.
School Psychologist
With the latest federal education laws, a retiring workforce, and greater attention to the mental health of children, school psychologists are urgently needed throughout the country. In fact, schools with programs to train school psychologists can not keep up with the demand. A typical program consists of two years of postgraduate courses and an internship of one year. Students in these programs, however, have no trouble finding employment and generally finds the work very rewarding.
Training and Education
It is not enough to have formal training only – it is important to back up that training with experience and practice in the field. A graduate degree is a must for all psychologists, one bachelor’s degree in a field of specialization, to be exact is mandatory.
Those who wish to become psychologists or clinical psychologists, counseling with a private practice and those who wish to enter teaching or research require a PhD or PhD after their master. This can take up to seven years to acquire. Child Psychology for example, is a branch of psychology that deals with children’s experiences and their responses to these experiences. The role of a child psychologist is to help the child deal with these experiences and help them find a balance for a positive life. A person who takes this branch of psychology for example, have to be a very patient person and, above all, as children.
